Hundreds of bees wildly explore the tall, white, flowering spires of the numerous Black Cohosh plants that grow in Avena's Garden. This elegant plant, native to the Appalachia Region, captures the curiosity of gardeners and visitors alike. Black Cohosh Root has a long history of use among Native Americans. It is particularly associated with women's health conditions such as menstrual cramps, menopause (to ease hot flashes, mild depression), ovarian and uterine spasms, and for reducing post-partum pain. It is also traditionally used for easing muscular pain associated with rheumatoid and osteoarthritis, and for relieving asthma. * This plant is being over-harvest in the wild, please refer to United Plant Savers for more information.
Avena’s organic Biodynamic® gardens produce 70% of the herbs used in our products. We apply organic compost and Biodynamic® preparations to nourish the soil and hand harvest our herbs following seasonal cycles. Some herbs are respectfully wildcrafted or organically grown by others who share our philosophy of care and respect for our Mother Earth. Each herb is mixed with spring water and organic pure grain alcohol to ensure the full range of plant constituents is extracted.
