Our beautiful purple colored and delicious tasting elixer is made from fresh Elderberries hand collected by Avena's gardeners and by another certified organic grower in Maine. The berries are traditionally renowned for preventing and speeding recovery of common cold and flu symptoms. Several six foot tall Marshmallow plants greet visitors at the South Entrance of Avena's Garden. It's tiny, mallow-like flowers attract ruby-throated hummingbirds and nibbling herbalists. We hand dig Marshmallows' demulcent roots in spring and autumn, and immediately tincture them in a solution of glycerin and organic alcohol. Traditionally known to soothe inflamed and irritated mucus membranes of the lungs, stomach, bladder and intestines.
