Botanical Name: Bacopa monnieri.
Part Used: Fresh leaf, stem, and flower.
About Bacopa Tincture: A small and beautiful plant from the Ayurvedic tradition, Bacopa is also known as Brahmi in Sanskrit, after the god Brahma, the creator god associated with intellect, wisdom, and knowledge. Bacopa has been prized in India for thousands of years for its ability to rejuvenate the mind and the senses.
Known as a nootropic, or ‘cognitive enhancer' -- a specific kind of nervine that works to support the brain and nourish the senses. Bacopa strengthens the central and peripheral nervous systems of the body and clears the mind, allowing greater long-form thought and memory recall, while also increasing resilience to stress. A beneficial herb for stress, aging, memory, motor skills, and a balanced mood. This wonderful plant helps to cultivate a subtle awareness of the beauty of the world.
Garden Notes: We grow several large pots of Bacopa plants each summer outside near our beautiful tall Willow tree. We carefully gather this trailing succulent herb when there are lots of tiny white flowers and tincture it immediately, creating a vibrantly alive and potent tincture.
Taste / Energetics: bitter, slightly sweet, cooling, clearing, strengthening, rejuvenative.
Actions: nootropic, nervine tonic.
When to reach for it: Later in life to support memory, focus, and general vitality. For support with projects, jobs, or times of serious study that require high levels of focus, concentration, and recall. When needing extra support with moods that can accompany nervousness, occasional tension, or menopause. To help calm and clear an overly busy or foggy mind, supporting your mind when you find yourself getting into the details, while also needing to hold the bigger picture. To keep beside your meditation altar, taking a few drops before meditating, before practicing a walking meditation or before yoga practice.
