About Nettle: Beds of stinging nettle grow in a special area on Avena’s biodynamic farm so that their deeply green leafy tops can be harvested for Avena’s tincture and teas. In May, Avena's gardeners, wearing long-sleeved shirts and pants and purple gloves, carefully cut several hundreds pounds of fresh nettles for drying. One of the most nutritive herbs known to herbalists, stinging nettle increases energy levels, strengthens the immune, musculoskeletal and lymphatic systems, supports the upper respiratory tract (especially during pollen season), promotes kidney health, and enhances a feeling of overall well-being and vitality.
Biodynamic Agriculture is a holistic, ecological, and ethical approach to gardening and farming — one that we at Avena Botanicals have been practicing since 1998.
Around the world, people are studying and applying Biodynamic principles and practices in gardens, farms, and orchards to support the Earth’s healing and resilience. Based on the work of philosopher and scientist Dr. Rudolf Steiner, Biodynamics has continued to evolve and grow since 1924. From seed to bottle, we are dedicated to caring for our garden... soil, trees, medicinal plants, pollinators, each other, and you, with integrity, respect, and love.
