Spring & Fall Tonic

Supports the liver, kidneys, and lymphatics in the body's normal cleansing process. Encourages healthy elimination and assimilation.*

About Spring & Fall Tonic: A perfect ally during the transitional seasons of the year, spring and fall, this tonic blends 4 of our most common, beloved, and potent Northeastern "weeds" together to create a balancing and supportive blend. Spring & Fall Tonic works to promote healthy function of the eliminatory and assimilative processes and organs of the body, namely the kidneys, liver, bowel, skin, and lymphatics. These herbs support overall wellness, immune function, and digestive function. Spring & Fall Tonic helps to keep you in step with the rhythms, gifts, and challenges of the seasonal wheel, preparing you to make the most of all that summer and winter offer.

Garden Notes: Our gardens have several beautiful lush beds of Nettle growing, especially in areas where the Nettle can easily spread. We enjoy making fresh tincture, fresh tea, and fresh juice with Nettle; we dry it for winter teas and add it into our own personal nutrient-dense organic apple cider vinegar (used by staff). Yellow Dock reseeds in a few different places in our gardens. We enjoy digging the roots in spring and fall. And our friends in Vermont organically grow the best Burdock roots ever! In springtime, we love digging fresh Dandelion roots and leaves; we tincture them fresh and also add the leaves into fresh juice and organic apple cider vinegar.

Taste / Energetics: bitter, sweet, clearing, soothing, nourishing, revitalizing.

When to reach for it: During the transitional seasons of spring and autumn -- take 1-2 times per day, for 4-8 weeks. To promote health after exposure to mild environmental or internal toxins of some kind. During travel for strength and digestive regularity. When seeking additional support for tonifying the immune, lymphatic, digestive, renal, and hepatic systems. When seeking extra support for the elimination of wastes and the assimilation of nutrients. If you are feeling nervous about the cold of winter or the heat of summer, this tonic helps regulate the body's thermal processes and brings more ease to the body during seasonal transitions.

Ingredients: Fresh Burdock (Arctium lappa) root, Fresh Dandelion (Taraxacum officinale) leaf, flower, & root, Fresh Stinging Nettle (Urtica dioica) leaf, Fresh Yellow Dock (Rumex crispus) root, Spring Water, Grain Alcohol (alcohol 95% by volume, water)^, Vegetable Glycerin^.

Plant Profiles:

  • Burdock (Arctium lappa) - Burdock grows a strong, deep tap root into the earth where it can access minerals, nutrients, and water. In the same way, Burdock supports physical strength and stamina while encouraging a healthy lymphatic and digestive system. Mildly bitter and prebiotic, this friendly root supports elimination and assimilation.
  • Dandelion (Taraxacum officinale) - Never underestimate the power and value of the humble and abundant Dandelion. We utilize the whole plant for its full-spectrum support for the digestive system, liver, and general cellular integrity throughout the body. Bitter, prebiotic, nourishing, and deeply regenerative. Known for spring blooms, Dandelion actually blooms once in the spring and again in autumn. The flowers nourish hummingbirds when they travel north in spring, and also delight honeybees with their generous nectar.
  • Stinging Nettle (Urtica dioica) - Nettles can grow with their feet (a.k.a. roots) in damp soil, illustrating their affinity for supporting healthy kidney function. Their leaves pop up in early spring, just in time to support the transition from winter into spring -- when many of us are hungry for green. Nettle is rich in minerals, vitamins, and compounds that encourage a healthy response to seasonal challenges. Deeply supportive to the liver and the blood.
  • Yellow Dock (Rumex crispus) - Yellow Dock is a cousin to Burdock. This beautiful and humble plant has a powerful, yellow bitter root. A biennial, like Burdock, Yellow Dock tones bowel function, encourages daily and regular elimination, and supports assimilation of nutrients. Gently cleansing, revitalizing, and strengthening to the liver and whole body, Yellow Dock is a plant to recognize in your garden or nearby fields.
