BotanicWise Women's Herbal Gathering
Featuring two classes by Deb Soule
September 13-15, 2024

Classes:

Herbalist Deb Soule

Growing, Preparing and Gifting Herbal Nervines
There are several herbs for supporting the nervous system that are easy to grow, prepare, and gift to family, neighbors, school teachers, racial justice, peace, and environmental activists, and communities who have historically been and are currently being marginalized and harmed by oppressive institutions.

Through a slideshow, Deb will offer her years of herbal growing and medicine making experiences of the following herbs: California Poppy, Chamomile, Hawthorn, Hops, Lavender, Lemon Balm, Milky Oats, Nettle, Rosa rugosa, and Skullcap.

Handouts will include a few favorite herb and gardening books and resources for further home study (and study groups) in being more aware of racial, social, and environmental issues and ongoing ways to be skillful, heart-centered, and humble in these times we are living in.

Creating a Healing Sanctuary for Pollinators, Plants and People
Through a beautiful slideshow, Deb will walk you through the different gardens (and her compost piles) that she has created at Avena Botanicals in midcoast Maine over the last 29 years. These 3.5 acres are the culmination of her life’s work as an herbalist, Biodynamic gardener/farmer, and student of soil, compost, and ruby-throated hummingbirds. What she has observed and practiced all these years can also be practiced in small backyard gardens, community, school and municipal gardens, native plant gardens, and habitats for pollinators -- especially for ruby-throated hummingbirds. Places of Sanctuary for quiet contemplation, rest, and renewal are needed more than ever in these unsettling times for people, as well as safe places for pollinators and birds. Gardeners that protect plants and that share seeds, plants, and medicine with others are empowering gestures in creating healthier human and more-than human communities.
